Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, Mr. Ikioye Orutugu, says his command arrested over 65 suspected armed robbers, murderers and kidnappers: “We also rescued 20 victims and recovered millions of naira as ransom from their hideouts.”
He told the Inspector General of Police [IGP] Conference in Abuja: “Police operatives, in collaboration with the Adamawa State Police Command, arrested a 43-year-old female suspect who abducted 11 children. The boys were sold at N1.5 million each, while the girls were sold at N800,000 each in Uruagu Nnewi. Operatives rescued the victims, five boys and six girls, all aged between three and six years. We have handed over the rescued children to Adamawa Police Command.
“We have made remarkable strides within six months in the fight against crime, demonstrating unwavering commitment to safeguarding life and property. The command has continued to intensify efforts in combating crime through proactive policing, intelligence-gathering and swift response to distress calls.
“As a result, the command apprehended 30 suspects in connection with a series of criminal activities. I warned officers against use of torture in conducting investigation on suspects. We have charged some of the suspects to court, while others are under investigation.
“On July 22, 2025, I received an award as the Best Crime Fighter at Man of the Year 2025 by the Nigerian Union of Journalists [NUJ], Federal Capital Territory Council, Abuja. This award is in recognition of the achievements of the command and a testament to the hard work and sacrifice of the entire officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command.
“The state has recorded significant milestones in combating crimes, dismantling criminal syndicates, fostering community policing and enhancing collaboration with sister security agencies and stakeholders. “Today, Anambra is calm and safe, with the cooperation of the citizens and support of government by giving us operational vehicles with sister security agencies to smoke criminals out of the state.
“We have stepped up night patrols, reinforcing commitment to serve and protect the community. I have charged officers to stay alert and proactive in preventing crimes and ensuring public safety. Officers are to conduct patrol with diligence and respect rights of the citizens.
“Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Mr. Ezekiel Ibrahim, has been coordinating Tactical Team, area commands, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Rapid Response Squad, Anti-Cultism Squad and Tactical Intelligence Respond Squad. They have stepped up surveillance and patrols to nip in the bud any untoward situation.
“RRS operatives arrested two students of Enugu State University of Science of Technology [ESUT] over a staged kidnap. Operatives stormed a lodge at UNIZIK Temporary site, Awka, rescued the victim and foiled the kidnap and payment of N10million ransom.
“Operatives CP Monitoring Unit apprehended two suspects in Abuja in connection with the diversion and illegal conversion of cement consignment across four southern states. Police attached to Awada Division arrested a suspect found in possession of a human body part and rescued kidnapped driver.
“Police recovered a stolen vehicle involved in a truck diversion valued at over N9.5 million. RRS arrested a notorious bus stop armed robber and cult member of Aye Confraternity involved in killing, abduction and attacks in Oko Orumba North LG. and recovered one automatic pump action gun and two mobile phones
“FOB operatives in Aguta rescued a kidnapped 26-year-old victim and killed one suspected armed robber. Operatives of Ogidi Area Command in conjunction with Isiowulu Division acting on credible intelligence recovered a stolen bus belonging to Susu College. It was found abandoned opposite the Magistrate’s Court, Asaba, Delta State.
“Police attached to Uli Division headquarters arrested a suspect allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of his own friend and collected a ransom in foreign currency equivalent to N5.3million. RRS arrested two suspects linked to a kidnapping syndicate terrorising Umudioka community in Dunukofia LG.
“Police foiled a cult initiation ceremony in Nawfia Njikoka LG and arrested six suspected members of Supreme Viking Confraternity.
