Medical experts have made a case for the use of technology to achieve a total transformation of the healthcare delivery system in Nigeria.
The experts, who converged at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, for a two-day Bio-Synergy Conference focused on integrating physiological research with advanced technologies, stressed the need to improve healthcare delivery in the country through the use of advanced technology.
The Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, Prof Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, in her address, described the event as timely, considering the immense desire for improved healthcare services in the country.
She said, “This conference reflects our commitment to advancing scientific research and leveraging emerging technologies to address critical health challenges, positioning Nigeria for innovative and sustainable healthcare solutions.”

The keynote speaker at the conference, Prof Chukwuemeka Nwokocha, highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare delivery and tasked medical experts to make the most of the discovery in their day-to-day activities.
“AI is transforming natural product research and enabling safer and more effective plant-derived therapeutics,” he stated.
Also speaking, Dr Mega Oyovwi said that “a healthier nation is within reach when technology, people and integrated data systems work together.”
Organisers of the conference emphasised that combining physiology with innovations such as AI and biosensors will strengthen diagnostics, therapies, and healthcare systems.
