It could not have been anything but divine mercy for a 45-year-old pastor and gospel music minister, Emmanuel Abu, and his family of four to survive the impact of a speeding trailer, which rammed into their car at the Hill Station Junction, Jos, Plateau State, recently.
The trailer, loaded with fertilizer and other materials, smashed the car from behind while Emmanuel, his wife and three children were held in a gridlock waiting for the traffic to ease. Luckily, the occupants survived the accident without a scratch.
The incident, which occured on Monday July 4, 2022, at the Hill Station Junction, in Jos North Local Government Area, left more than five vehicles damaged and several persons injured.
Emmanuel, who narrated his chilling experience, said he was returning from Benue State that faithful evening and decided to call his wife to find out if she was still in the office to accompany her home. She received the call with joy and enthusiastically agreed to drive him home.
He said: “It is unbelievable and I can’t imagine how it happened; it was only God that saved us. I was actually coming from a journey and came down at the motor park, where I called my wife to pick me.
“I was at the Old Airport Junction, Jos, where she picked me up with the children after they returned from school. We were all in the vehicle going home and when we got to Hill Station Junction, we discovered that there was gridlock. Ours was the last vehicle on the line.
“Not up to two minutes after, a trailer loaded with fertilizer was coming with speed and rammed into our vehicle from behind. We were lucky that God was on our side; if not, the story would have been different because I can’t explain how God did it.
“God removed us out of the way totally. Our vehicle would have been used to crush other vehicles ahead of us but when the trailer hit us for the first time, it threw our car into a culvert. I and my wife with three of my children were inside the vehicle but none of us sustained any injury. Only the car got damage beyond repair.
“This is quite unexplainable and unbelievable but the Almighty God, in His infinite love and mercy, delivered us and gave us a resounding victory over the plans of the enemy. Not even a strand of our hair fell to the ground. Indeed, this can only be God.”
Hill Station Junction and Polo Roundabout have turned into death traps, where several trailers and trucks have claimed life and property in recent time.
