Renowned Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY Comedian, has shed light on the growing impact of social media negativity on the lives of celebrities, emphasizing the profound effects it has on their mental health, livelihood, and families.
AY expressed concerns over how the digital age has turned social media into a double-edged sword, where the rapid spread of negative trends and comments often snowballs into public scrutiny.
“The rapid spread of negative trends and comments has easily shifted from one celebrity to another, often snowballing into a wave of public scrutiny. It’s astonishing how quickly opinions can form about the individuals we may know little or nothing about,” he said.
AY also highlighted that behind every social media post lies a real person with their struggles and triumphs, reminding the public that these negative narratives not only affect the targeted celebrities but also their families and means of livelihood.
“Some of us have managed to stand strong and remain consistent with our brands. Resilience has become our shield, and authenticity, our armour. We consistently strive to rise above the noise, focusing on our craft and the positivity we can bring to our audiences,” he noted.
The comedian went on to express gratitude to fans who have remained supportive through difficult times, acknowledging the vital role of kindness and understanding in combating negativity.
“Your support means the world to us and reinforces the belief that kindness and understanding will always triumph over negativity,” he said.
