How I moved from clerk to Nollywood star – Eniola Ajao

Nollywood actress, Eniola Taiwo Ajao, has urged Nigerians to be more responsible in their use of social media, warning that insensitive online comments can have devastating consequences for individuals’ mental health and relationships.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Sun, the versatile actress acknowledged the immense benefits of social media. Still, she cautioned that its misuse has contributed to broken relationships and even loss of lives.

According to her, while digital platforms remain valuable tools for communication and business, users should avoid making hasty judgments or attacking others based on what they see online.

“Social media has separated a lot of beautiful relationships and taken lives, but in all, it’s still a good space for those who are utilising it well.

“I would say people should tread carefully. Don’t believe or judge based on what you see or hear on social media. You don’t even know what people are going through behind closed doors. Your hurtful comments can lead to depression or untimely death for some people because we are not wired the same way. Please, let’s be sensitive,” she advised.

Reflecting on her journey into Nollywood, Ajao revealed that her acting career began unexpectedly in 2003 while she was working as an accounts clerk.

She recalled meeting film producer Great Value during a business meeting with his uncle, who was also her employer and recognised her potential.

Although acting was not initially part of her career plans, Ajao said she chose to follow what she described as her inner spirit.

“Anything that flows with my spirit, I allow. My boss allowed me to join rehearsals because it was close to my office in Ogudu, and then in 2004, I was given a lead role. I played alongside the likes of Femi Adebayo, Peju Ogunmola, Deji Adenuga and Bimbo Akinsanya,” she recalled.

Sharing the lessons she has learned throughout her career, the star actress said: “Life has taught me that everything happens for a reason. It has taught me that there is always God’s time. It has also taught me that hard work truly pays. My life story has taught me to stay resilient, remain focused and always believe that you can do it,” she said.
