Nollywood actress and filmmaker Susan Jimah has opened up about the challenges of balancing her demanding career with her personal life, crediting God and her supportive family for helping her navigate the entertainment industry’s pressures.

During a chat with Saturday Sun, the single mother of two admitted that her commitment to work sometimes comes at the expense of her social life, leaving her with little time to unwind or maintain personal relationships.
“Honestly, it’s been God and the support of my very understanding family. Sometimes, my personal life suffers because I get so buried in work that I don’t socialise for months. But I’m learning to be more intentional about taking breaks, having fun and truly living, rather than just existing,” she said.
Given the nature of her profession, which often takes her to different locations for film projects, Jimah has had opportunities to explore new places and meet people within and beyond the Nigerian film industry.

However, not all her travel experiences have been pleasant.
The actress recalled an unsettling incident in which she nearly missed her flight back to Nigeria after suffering a bout of stomach upset, which she attributed to food she had eaten.
“I almost missed my flight back to Nigeria. I was having a running stomach after trying a particular food, and I kept hearing my name being called because the flight was about to take off,” she recounted.
Another vivid experience occurred during a stopover in Uganda. Still haunted by a previous robbery incident at a hotel in Benin City, Edo State, she became uncomfortable at the cottage provided for her accommodation after noticing some men whose appearance made her uneasy.
“I couldn’t sleep at the cottage provided because I saw some funny-looking guys. In fact, I immediately became fearful because of the robbery I had experienced in a hotel in Benin City, Edo State. I had to stay with the receptionist until the early hours of the morning before showering and continuing my journey. Whew! What an experience!” she recalled.
Despite these unsettling encounters, Jimah believes travelling remains enriching, offering opportunities for personal growth, inspiration, and memorable encounters.
