As a child growing up in Eku in Delta State in the 1990s, Enea Kelvin developed an early affinity for music that was inspired by her family.
“Music has been a thing in the family,” she says.
“A gift. My mum is a singer. Growing up, my father was a pastor. My mum was a deaconess, and I’ve always been in the church with my parents.”
In addition to this, she grew up listening to music from American soul icon, Whitney Houston, and a local Deltan legend, Kefee.
From there, she headed to university where she continued her musical pursuits but her musical career only started to take shape in 2017 after she emigrated with he husband to Germany.
There, she was part of a German band, Afasia, working as its lead singer for a spell. After a while, she got a prompt in her spirit to recenter herself and start recording gospel music.
“I had lots of revelations,” she admits. “On one particular day, on my way back from church, I heard clearly that I should hold concerts. Worship programs where I gather people together and we worship and praise God together.”
Convinced that this was the right direction for her life, the singer has buckled down on making music to worship God and uplift her audience in her capacity. Her new album, The Beloved, is a manifestation of her convictions.
“The album has been long overdue,” she admits. “I’ve been singing professionally since 2017. So far, we’ve had some singles that have been released. And we have had songs piled up that we produced a long time ago. We’ve been saying we’ll get to release the songs, but somehow, we’ll have one thing or the other come in between and we won’t do it. This is the time. It’s long overdue. There are some songs that God has blessed us with that I believe will reach out to people and bless them. It’s a whole body of work. I got the conviction, and we are ready. We are ready to go out.”
Going all out with her conviction, Enea Kelvin wants her album to help people experience the love of God on another level and make it as personal to them as possible.
“The message is actually the love of God because I’ve seen God’s love,” she says.
“God loves me so so much, because of the circumstances that have happened around me, God has proven that he loves me. I am different. I’m his beloved. When you listen to some of the songs, they just try to portray God’s love towards man. What God can do for you if you believe in him. It will let people know how much God loves them, and that no matter the situation, no matter what you’ve gone through, no matter who you are or what you’ve done before in the past, when you come to him, he’ll take you back. You can’t fathom his love. They should expect the message of love from God, and they should be ready to be blessed.”
