How do we restore world peace?

REV FELIX

Introduction

The world is going through most challenging times. There are threats to the peace of individuals and families in several countries of the world.  Lives are lost daily in an unusual circumstances. There are social and political dislocations everywhere. At the root of these problems is greed and lust for economic and political power.

Perhaps more fundamental to this is that most people who create atmosphere of tension and chaos have been disconnected with their Maker. Since they were born, they never spare a thought to know why they are on this part of eternity and what should they be doing to ensure that fellowship is restored with God.

The Sure-footed Way Out

I know of a sure way that World Peace can be restored. Let everyone who is born again take up his appointment and begin to play the proper role of Christ’s Ambassadors. There could be persecutions but I assure you that those inconveniences will be temporary and would soon fade away. One thing that is certain is that darkness cannot overcome light.

Every sinner can warm his way back to the heart of God by believing in the atoning power of the blood of Jesus Christ, surrendering his life to God’s control and by serving God. This often occurs after the erstwhile sinner has heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ (preached to him by someone who had earlier been reconciled to God) and has responded positively.

In 2 Corinthians 5: 18-20 the bible says “Now all things are of God who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors of Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” (NKJV).

We are Christ Ambassador

The scripture establishes that Christians are ambassadors of Christ. By divine appointment, we represent the Kingdom of God here on earth and no serious Christian should be reluctant to show forth the glory of God.  Every ambassador is pleased to be given the appellation “Ambassador” even after retirement. However, for us as Christians, mere titles are not enough. There is a compelling need to identify with and publish the ministry of Jesus Christ, which He has delegated to us.

Christians are supposed to be dutiful and proud in playing their roles as agents of reconciliation between God and the sinner. It is our individual and collective duty to see to it that no sinner goes to hell for the sole reason that he had never heard the Gospel of reconciliation. We can discharge this responsibility satisfactorily by taking active part in evangelism and in missionary activities.

The need for retrospection

As  Christian, how committed are you in preaching to the sinner that he no longer needs to keep running away from God; that God is eager to receive him into His warm embrace if he would only forsake his sin and believe that Jesus Christ has procured his salvation by His blood?

If an ambassador of a country can, with a straight face, defend or rationalise an unpopular action of his home country; to a disapproving world, why should a Christian, an ambassador of the Kingdom of God – not propagate the most prestigious reconciliation plan of God to sinners?

The declaration of Apostle Paul in Romans 1: 16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek (NKJV),” should be the Christian’s motto as regards his work in the ministry of reconciliation.

A believer should not let any opportunity to preach the gospel go by unused. In buses, at our workplaces, market stalls, in our schools, and in our communities we should always be alert to our responsibility to preach the gospel to the unsaved.

We should also continually pray for the salvation of unsaved people in our families, communities, nation and the world as well as for missionaries and other people who preach the gospel. As you help others to make peace with God, heaven will consider you blessed and you will enjoy the tremendous benefits that accrue from being recognised as a child of God.

If we are to function appropriately as an ambassador of Christ, our lifestyle should be a shinning example to others in our community and offices. A Christian has the responsibility to live in peace with everyone in his or her neighbourhood and to do everything within his or her powers to ensure cordial relation with everyone he or she comes across in the course of employment, business or schooling. The bible says in Romans 12: 18).

This means that Christians should not be involved in strife, feud and violent agitation in the workplace; and Christian students are not to have anything to do with violent demonstrations on our campuses.  Also, never force anyone to accept your faith; just preach the Gospel and leave the Holy Sprit to do the work of conviction.

A Call to take a Decision

Beloved, have you entered into personal relationship with Jesus Christ by accepting Him as your Lord and Saviour? If you have not, you need to do so without delay. Inviting and accepting Jesus Christ into your life is the beginning of a glorious and eternally rewarding relationship with God, your Creator. It is a decision you can never regret as you walk with Him faithfully and consistently for the rest of your life. Surrender your life to Jesus Christ today by acknowledging that you are a sinner. God sent Jesus Christ to die for you and as you confess your sins to Him, He will forgive you so that you will not have to be punished for the same. Ask Jesus Christ to cleanse your heart with His precious blood, deliver you from sin and Satan and empower you by the Holy Spirit to henceforth live above sin and live totally for God.
