How COVID-19 triggered my music career –Ane

Ane

As 2024 is winding down and the New Year fast approaches, Afro R&B artiste, Ane, has opened up on her plans for 2025. Here are excerpts:

Could you please shed light on your musical background?

As a child, I didn’t go out often, I was a bit of an introvert and extrovert. Music was more like my escape. I got CDs, listened to the artistes and wrote their lyrics on paper. I was really into poetry and my favourite subject in school was English. Poems were my original gateway to songwriting.

I didn’t start writing and singing professionally until 2020, the COVID year. I had time on my hands during the lockdown. I found a studio and recorded my first song, Separate Ways, which I had written down. It was a pure R&B song because I felt that was the exact direction I wanted to go. However, I took a break and later came back with my other songs.

Looking at the prospects of breakout artistes for 2025, what are your plans for the coming year?

I would be working on a 3-part project for the first quarter of 2025, before coming down to Nigeria for my full EP. I’m looking forward to collaboration with a handful of Nigeria artistes; shoot a number of music videos and more importantly tour the southern and western states in Nigeria (for my first leg tour).

How would you describe your sound?

I describe my sound as extremely inspirational, feel-good, motivational and factually explicit. It reflects my personality, which is simple, upfront and straightforward, and also connects to young girls who aspire to do more. For me, the aim isn’t to sound like what’s already out there, the aim isn’t to sound like Asake, the aim isn’t to sound like Tems or Ayra Star, the aim is to sound like Ane and be the best at what I do.

Conclusion

Hopefully, 2025 might turnout to be a breakout year for Ane, as she has good prospects of becoming a commercially successful artiste in the near future.
