The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, said the Federal Government is set to create 2,500,000 direct and indirect jobs through the Renewed Hope Cities Project of the present administration.
Dangiwa stated this in Abuja on Thursday while signing a Memorandum of Understanding with a consortium of very highly reputable developers led by Continental Civil and General Construction Company limited and Ceezali limited for the delivery of 100,000 housing units across Nigeria.
He explained that the jobs creation would help in reducing unemployment and actualization of the administration target of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
“At 25 jobs per unit, this PPP arrangement will create 2,500,000 direct and indirect jobs helping to achieve His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s target to lift 100million Nigerians out of poverty” Dangiwa stated.
“The 100,000 Renewed Hope Housing Project is to be implemented in two phases. Phase One will deliver 20,000 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) while Phase Two will deliver 80,000 houses in select locations across the six geopolitical zones of the country” he added.
He noted that the targeted beneficiaries are Nigerians in both the public and private sectors of the economy.
Speaking on housing deficit, the Minister insisted that Nigeria’s housing problem is massive, stressing that the government budgetary allocation alone can not address it.
“The housing problem that Nigeria faces is massive, and I sincerely believe that the task of developing Nigeria’s housing sector, and ensuring increased access to decent and affordable housing is a collective endeavor” he noted.
He emphasized that it is a patriotic job that require the contribution and active participation of all stakeholders across the entire housing value chain.
“We recognize that we cannot tackle Nigeria’s housing problem from government budgetary allocation. So, we have prioritized Public Private Partnerships as effective tools for complementing government efforts to bridge the housing deficit which requires trillions of naira to fix.
“we aim to do it right. That is why we have developed a robust framework to ensure that any project we as a Ministry enter into is structured to succeed. Our PPP model involves transparent agreements, clear roles and responsibilities, and risk-sharing mechanisms to ensure accountability, fairness, and long-term sustainability” the Minister stressed.
In his remarks, the Principal partner, 23 consultant limited, Demola Akindoliri said the collaboration between the ministry and private sector developers has come to stay .
He appreciated the government for providing very interesting and conducive policy environment for private sector developers in the country.
