The House of Representatives Committee on Polytechnic and Higher Technical Education has stated that the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, must unfailingly appear before it on September 17 over the implementation of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme of the Federal Government.
The panel, which also directed the Ministry of Education to submit all documents relating to the implementation of TVET to it, frowned on the failure of Alausa to honour its summons.
Chairman of the committee, Fuad Laguda, who spoke at an investigative hearing by the panel, disclosed that the committee had written on several occasions to the Federal Ministry of Education seeking information on the implementation and activities of the government’s TVET programme.
Laguda explained that the latest correspondence to the ministry, requesting detailed information on the programme and inviting the ministry to appear before the committee, was sent on July 30, 2026.

According to him, “We have written several correspondences starting from January 30, 2025, seeking information on the activities of Technical Vocational Education Training being implemented by the government. The last invitation was on July 30, but the minister is not here and no representative was sent to the committee.”
The chairman, while noting that the committee had maintained a cordial working relationship with the ministry, described the latest development as unexpected and unacceptable.
“We are using this platform to request from the ministry to supply the committee with the necessary information that has been requested from inception to date. The submission of this information should be made available to the secretariat by the 18th of August.
“We are adjourning this meeting with the Minister and the Ministry of Education to the 17th of September, and we hope that the minister will be present on the new date given,” Laguda said.
