Gun-wielding hoodlums on Wednesday disrupted the re-run election conducted in 8 polling units in ward 5, Enugu South urban constituency.
Though no lives were lost during the fracas, election materials were destroyed and voters were prevented from casting their votes. There was, however, a heavy security presence at the venue of the election.
Meanwhile, supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) were seen at the headquarters of INEC in the state, protesting against the conduct of the election.
While supporters of the PDP insisted that the result sheets presented by INEC were fake, members of the Labour Party accused PDP supporters of intentionally truncating the election.
Earlier at the venue of the election, the Labour Party candidate for the election, Bright Ngene expressed sadness that the PDP denied the authenticity of the result sheets.
He accused the PDP of trying to scuttle the election despite the fact that INEC came with authentic result sheets.
On his part, the candidate of the PDP for the election, Sam Ngene accused INEC of conducting the election with fake result sheets.
INEC is yet to make its stand on the election public at the time of filing this report.
