Deputy Speaker of Cross River House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, has said that Rep. Abass Tajudeed, has the capacity, experience and vigour to emerge as the 10th Speaker of the House of Representative.
Bassey, who is also the House of Representatives member-elect for Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency (APC), said that the choice of Abbas by the leadership of the APC was “timely and fair”.
Tajudeen, was adopted as the consensus candidate for the 10th Speakership, while the current spokesperson of the House, Rep. Ben Kalu was chosen as Deputy Speaker
According to him, the North West zone where Abbas hails from, gave the APC the highest number of votes in the February 25 general elections to enable Sen. Bola Tinubu emerge as the president-elect
He noted that the choice of Tajudeen as the preferred candidate was received with great joy because a labourer deserves his wages.
He however, noted that ceding the speakership position to the zone has shown that Tinubu and his team truly believes in a reward system that encourages hardwork, capacity and loyalty.
“Hon. Abass Tajudeen, who represents Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna state, is the most competent lawmaker from the zone having being the highest bill sponsor in the 8th and 9th Assemblies.
“For me as a ranking lawmaker of the Cross River House of Assembly, I have carefully looked at the credentials and performance of Tajudeen, he is a material; hence the need to queue behind him for the speakership position,” he said.
He said that Tajudeen, who is the current Chairman, House Committee on Land Transport, has done excellently well in his over sight functions and legislative activities in the house.
According to him, for Tajudeen to be elected into the House for a record fourth time means his constituents were greatly satisfied with his leadership qualities and style.
“Hon. Tajudeen is humble, unassuming, competent, reliable and a loyal party man to the core.
“ I want to appeal to contestants from other geopolitical zones to accept the choice of Tajudeen. All hands must be on deck to actualize the objective of the party in moving Nigeria forward.
“Cross River is intact for Tajudeen. We the elected members from Cross River are also going to canvass support for him from other states members-elect,” he assured.
For Rep. Ben Kalu, who was also reported to have been chosen as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Bassey said that his choice was a perfect one.
Describing Kalu also as an alumnus of the University of Calabar (Malabite), Bassey maintained that the House will be great having Kalu who has been the Chairman, House Committee on Information, as deputy to Tajudeen.
He added that the choice of Kalu who hails from South East was timely because the zone deserve a serious presence in the government.
He maintained that Kalu has been one of the most outstanding member of the 9th Assembly.
