Hijrah 1448AH: Osun, Kano declare tomorrow public holiday

Osun and Kano governments have announced Wednesday 17th June, 2026 as a Public Holiday to commemorate Hijira 1448AH. This celebration marks the beginning of Islamic New Year.

Osun State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Aderibigbe Rasheed, in a statement, extended the government greetings to Muslim brothers and sisters.

“May this occasion bring peace, prosperity and unity to our great State.

“However, residents are encouraged to shun rancor and disharmony and joyfully participate in festivities and celebrations promoting unity and togetherness,” he added.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf congratulated Muslims for witnessing the New Year, which begins with the month of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

He called on people of the state and the Muslim Ummah to reflect on their actions over the past year and to use the occasion to offer special prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity for the state and the country at large.

He also reassured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment to improving their living standards through dedicated and people-oriented governance.
