From Oluseye Ojo, Ibadan
Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has called on Muslims in Nigeria, and around the world to embrace righteousness as they commemorate the new Hijrah Year, 1445 A.H.
In a statement released in Ibadan and personally signed by the lawmaker, Alli emphasised the importance of using the new year as an opportunity to renew faith and dedication to living a righteous life, as well greater and prosperous Nigeria.
With the commencement of new Hijrah Year on Muharram 1,1445 A.H, corresponding with July 19, 2023, Alli, who is also the Maye-Balogun of Ibadanland, urged Muslims to reflect on their spirituality and strive for a closer relationship with Allah through devoutness and obedience.
The senator stressed that the essence of Hijrah, the migration of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina, could only be fully realised through obedience, discipline, faithfulness, and submission to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.
Alli implored Muslims to pray fervently for peace and stability, not just in Oyo State, but also in Nigeria as a whole. He emphasised the importance of actively contributing to the building of a just and peaceful society, urging individuals to foster a spirit of peaceful coexistence regardless of religious affiliation.
“As we begin Hijrah 1445 AH, there is a need for us all to imbibe the spirit of peaceful coexistence among ourselves. We must learn to be our brothers’ keepers. We must understand that Nigeria can only achieve progress and move to greater heights in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility,” he said.
Highlighting the significance of peace in Islam, the senator cautioned against actions that promote violence and called on fellow Muslims to resist any attempt to divide the country or hinder its progress.
Alli extended his warm congratulations to Muslims worldwide on the celebration of Hijrah 1445 AH, praying that Almighty Allah would grant them the opportunity to witness many more years of joyous celebrations, saying: “I wish you all a happy celebration.”
