The Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN) and the American Business Council (ABC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in advancing private sector participation in Nigeria’s healthcare sector through joint advocacy, investment promotion and strategic partnerships.
The partnership will support initiatives that improve the enabling environment for healthcare investment and strengthen Nigeria’s health system by leveraging the complementary strengths of HFN and ABC Nigeria.
Founded in 2007, ABC is the Nigerian affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and a leading business advocacy organisation that promotes trade and investment between Nigeria and the United States. Through policy advocacy, strategic engagement and investment promotion, ABC works to foster an enabling business environment and support sustainable economic growth. Its board includes CEOs of major U.S. companies operating in Nigeria, alongside representation from the U.S. Mission’s Commercial and Economic Section.
Signed in Lagos, the agreement provides a framework for collaboration in four key areas: joint policy advocacy, coordinated investment promotion, strengthening the healthcare value chain, and stakeholder engagement and coordination. The partnership will also support efforts to advance local manufacturing, diagnostics, supply chain optimisation, workforce development and other initiatives that improve access to quality healthcare across Nigeria.
The ceremony was attended by senior leaders from both organisations and key stakeholders from across the healthcare and business communities. The HFN delegation was led by its President, Njide Ndili, and included Public Relations Secretary, Chinyere Okorocha; Executive Director, Health Business Academy (HBA), Mr. Wale Olajubu; and HFN Program Officer, Uchechi Amilo.
The ABC delegation was led by the Chief Executive Officer, Margaret Olele, and Head of the ABC Health Committee, John Shidak, who is also the Managing Director of Bristol Scientific. Also in attendance were members of the ABC Health Committee, including Michael Omeihe, Head of Market Access and Government Affairs at Roche; Ikenna Ngonebu, Director, GE Healthcare; and Halim Baba, Project Manager, Africa Resource Centre for Excellence in Supply Chain Management (ARC_ESM), alongside members of the ABC Secretariat, including Lead Strategist, Joy Lawal; Project Coordinator, Ekene Okafor; and Associate Project Coordinator, Bello Garba Bello.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, HFN President, Njide Ndili, described the partnership as a significant step towards bringing together organisations that share a common commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare ecosystem.
“We are stronger together. The private sector remains a critical pillar of Nigeria’s healthcare system, and partnerships like this enable us to speak with a stronger collective voice. Through this collaboration, we can attract greater investment, advance policies that create lasting impact, strengthen the healthcare value chain and ultimately build a health system that better serves Nigerians,” she said.
Ndili noted that while innovation continues to emerge across the healthcare sector, supportive policies and coordinated action are essential to ensure those innovations translate into sustainable improvements in healthcare delivery. She added that HFN’s broad membership, which spans the entire healthcare value chain, positions the Federation to effectively represent industry perspectives while working with partners to address systemic challenges.
Also speaking, the CEO of ABC Nigeria, Margaret Olele, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to using collaboration to strengthen healthcare delivery and create an enabling environment for sustainable private sector investment.
She emphasised that partnerships are essential to growing Nigeria’s healthcare ecosystem, particularly in shaping policies that encourage innovation, investment and long-term sector growth, adding that collaboration between organisations such as ABC and HFN will help deliver stronger outcomes for the healthcare sector.
Under the MoU, both organisations will work together to promote healthcare investment opportunities, support evidence-based policy reforms, convene strategic stakeholder engagements and leverage their respective networks to drive impactful initiatives that benefit Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
The agreement reflects a shared vision of a stronger, more resilient healthcare system driven by effective public-private collaboration, strategic investment and coordinated advocacy.
The Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN) is a coalition of private healthcare sector stakeholders dedicated to supporting the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through private-sector engagement and activation. The Federation represents organisations across the healthcare value chain and works to advance policies, partnerships and innovations that improve access to quality healthcare while strengthening the role of the private sector in achieving better health outcomes for all Nigerians.
