Panic reportedly broke out in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, after a helicopter crashed in the riverine community on Monday.
Many people are feared dead in the incident, although the exact number of casualties was yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
According to reports, the crash sent residents into a state of confusion, with people reportedly rushing to safety following the incident.
A resident who confirmed the development said the helicopter had just gone down in the community.
“Yes, it’s true. A helicopter just crashed now at Igbokoda, Ondo State,” the resident said.

The resident added that efforts were underway to get to the crash site and determine the extent of the damage and possible casualties.
However, the number of people on board the helicopter and the condition of any possible survivors remained unknown.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, said he was not aware of the crash when contacted but promised to make inquiries into the reported incident.
The circumstances surrounding the crash, including its cause, had not been established as of the time of filing this report.
