Health minister commends MDCAN for improving healthcare services in Nigeria

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has commended the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) for their dedication to improving the health and well being of Nigerians.

The minister gave the commendation on Friday, at the 14th Biennial Delegates Conference of the MDCAN held in Enugu, with the theme “Physician, Heal Thyself.” 

Represented by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, Prof. John Emaimo, the minister highlighted the importance of doctors taking care of themselves in order to better take care of their patients. 

The honourable minister touched on the global issue of mental health challenges faced by doctors, specifically mentioning the Otanisi psychosis and Japa syndrome that affect many medical professionals in Nigeria.

While acknowledging the sacrifices and challenges faced by doctors in their profession, the minister, emphasised the importance of self-care and seeking help when needed. He urged all participants to engage in thoughtful discussions on how to address these issues and improve the healthcare system in Nigeria.

The speech also highlighted the role of the government in improving the work environment, welfare, and infrastructural requirements for safe healthcare delivery. 

The minister thanked MDCAN for their commitment to advancing the field of medicine in Nigeria and commended them for their dedication to improving the health and well being of their fellow citizens. 

The message served as a reminder of the importance of self-care for doctors and the need for collaborative efforts to address the challenges faced by the healthcare system in Nigeria.

Dr. Salako expressed his regret for not being able to attend the conference in person, but extended his warm regards and best wishes for a successful and impactful event.  Medical and dental consultants from across Nigeria attended the conference to share their insights, expertise, and recommendations on improving healthcare in the country. The resolutions and recommendations from the conference are expected to have a lasting impact on the healthcare system in Nigeria.
