Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning over the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Dejumo Lewis.
Lewis, a Nigerian film and television actor, fa6mous for the Kabiyesi role in The Village Headmaster, Nigeria’s longest-running television soap opera, died on Friday, December 22 at the age of 80.
Actor, Saidi Balogun, confirmed his passing in a post shared on his Instagram account on Saturday morning.
Sharing the photo of the late veteran, Saidi wrote, “Good night DEJUMO LEWIS, may your soul rest in perfect peace. RIP.”
While the specific details surrounding Lewis’ passing remain undisclosed, Balogun’s tribute has ignited an outpouring of condolences from fans and other actors and actresses.
Yoruba actress, Folaluke Daramola while paying tribute to the veteran revealed his unfulfilled dreams of celebrating his 80th birthday in July.
She wrote, “RIP Uncle Dejumo Lewis. I woke up to the death of uncle Dejumo Lewis today and it made me a bit sad, not because he’s not old enough to die (because we are all going die someday. It’s just the timing that’s decided by the most high) but because I am close to most of all these old veterans and I know what we discussed when we are together. Uncle Dejumo told me he had some needs (which I won’t talk about cos I have to respect his death)to be met and he would have loved to celebrate his 80th birthday but I couldn’t come through for him.”
Monica Friday wrote, “Oh My Kabiyesi of Village Headmaster. Rest on icon.”
Lewis is also known for his memorable performances in acclaimed films such as “A Place in the Stars” (2014), “Crossroads” (2020), and “Power of 1” (2018).
