The Taraba state Police command on Friday paraded scores of suspects, arrested for kidnapping and other heinous crimes in the state.
The state Police Commissioner CP Alkasim Sanusi who paraded the suspects at the command headquarters in Jalingo on Friday, told journalists that some of the kidnappers were arrested while trying to pick the ransom money from the family of one of their victims.
Sanusi said that “the command was on red alert and fully prepared to tackle the rising menace of kidnapping in the state with ferocious decisiveness and would stop at nothing to ensure that residents of the state can comfortably go to sleep with both eyes closed”.
“Some of these suspects were arrested while trying to pick up the ransom money from the families of one of their victims. In the course of our investigation, we also discovered that the two motorcycles they used were also stolen. That means they are not just kidnappers but armed robbers as well.
“Let me assure the people that the command is poised to make sure that this ugly trend is completely tackled and the people feel sufficiently safe. Let me also appeal to the people to kindly avail us with relevant information to make this work easier for us. Security is our collective responsibility”.
Our correspondent reports that Taraba state has witnessed a drastic increase in the level of criminal activities especially kidnapping which has become very rampant across the state including the state capital Jalingo.
Recall that the command has paraded over thirty suspects shortly after the new commissioner resumed office just before elections.
