Harry Kane breaks Bundesliga goals record

HARRY KANE

Harry Kane has broken the record for the most goals scored in a debut Bundesliga season with his 31st strike of the campaign for Bayern Munich.

After Jamal Musiala cancelled out Tim Skarke’s opener for Darmstadt, the England captain scored just before half time to make it 2-1 to Bayern and carve himself a special place in German footballing history. With this goal, he moves past Uwe Seeler’s record of 30 goals in his debut Bundesliga campaign.

In what would have seen the England striker increase his goals tally, he was denied another Bayern Munich goal on Saturday when Thomas Muller was penalised following a challenge with the Darmstadt goalkeeper.

Kane turned home into an empty net after Muller had collided with Darmstadt goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen, but the whistle had gone to deny the England captain another goal early doors. However, closer inspection showed that the veteran Bayern forward had actually been pushed into the ‘keeper by one of the Darmstadt defenders, meaning either a penalty or a Kane goal should likely have been called by the referee.
