The palace of Oba Abdulateef Atanda Adams Akinwumi I, the Onikate of Ikateland in Surulere, Lagos was filled with eminent personalities on Wednesday, July 22 as the traditional ruler marked his 10th year on the throne with the installation of prominent community and business leaders as chiefs.
Among those honoured was prominent businesswoman and founder, the Northern People’s Political Group (NPPG), Hajiya Ramat Ajoke Lawal.
The respected business tycoon was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju of Ikateland in recognition of her work in healthcare awareness and women empowerment initiatives. Alongside Hajiya Ramat, who was described at the event as a distinguished businesswoman who upholds the values of compassion, inclusivity, humility and service to humanity, were seven other deserving women also bestowed with various titles.
Hajiya Ramat is also the President of the Ramat Women Support and Empowerment Foundation, RAWSE Foundation, an organisation focused on empowering women, supporting youth development, education and healthcare projects. As a prime mover and a woman of purpose, she has touched many lives through various community development programmes.
Speaking at the installation ceremony, the new Yeye Asiwaju stated that her goal as a humanitarian is rooted in love, care, compassion and a passion for transforming lives. “My goal is not just charity as the national leader of NPPG and President, RAWSE Foundation, or for any applause in the community, but to show love, care, compassion and a deep passion for touching and transforming lives,” she said.
The 10th coronation anniversary celebration of Oba Adams, a renowned clothier and founder of famed Latris Fashion, drew eminent personalities including notable politicians, business and community leaders across Lagos and other states. They included Chief Mrs. Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja General; Chief Mrs. Shekinat Adewale; Hon. Gbenga Lee; Nollywood star Saheed Balogun; Hon. Olufemi Daniel Odunayo, Chairman, Itire/Ikate LCDA; Hon. Adeyemi Alli; Fuad Laguda; Sabur Oluwa Akanbi; Sylvester Ogunkelu; and Damilola Ayinde Marshall.
The installation ceremony was capped with a live performance by Fuji music maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall.
