A Syrian engineer working with a construction company in Sokoto-Jega has been kidnapped by suspected armed bandits.
Three policemen were reportedly killed by the bandits in a failed attempt to rescue the expatriate.

Another source said the bodies of the murdered policemen have since been removed and deposited at mortuary in Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital.
When contacted, Sokoto Police spokeswoman DSP Cordelia Nwawe confirmed the incident.
She, however, said that the affected policemen received treatment at an undisclosed hospital after they were shot during a crossfire when attempting to rescue the kidnapped engineer.
She said a reinforced armed police team has been despatched to the area in order to rescue the kidnap victim.
