An Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, Audu Madaki, has been reportedly shot by gunmen.
Madaki is the AIG in charge of zone 12 police command. He was said to have been attacked by the assailants on Tuesday, along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway. Although details of the attack were still hazy, he was said to have been shot in the leg, while his orderly was killed.
When contacted, the Zone 12 police spokesperson, Thomas Goni, said he was yet to receive details of the attack.
“We are still waiting for the details of the incident. You know it did not happen within our jurisdiction here; it happened in Kaduna command; so I have been on the line with Kaduna to get the details from them,” he said.
While confirming that the AIG is alive, Goni said information about the incident would be made available when details were received from the Kaduna command.
Kaduna police spokesperson, Mohammed Jalige, did not respond to calls and text messages sent to his mobile phone for his reaction to the attack.
Also on Tuesday night, gunmen stormed Manchok community in Kaura Local Government of Area of Kaduna state, killed Mr Daniel Yatai, the father of Philip Yatai, a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and abducted his niece, Brenda.
The bandits also abducted the Rector of Federal School of Statistics, Manchok, Mr Amos Magbon.
The victim, Mr Yatai, 86, retired from the Nigeria Railway Corporation in 1991. His second child of the victim, who witnessed the sad event, Ms Christiana Yatai, said that the gunmen came to the house, at about 11:15pm.
“We were five of us in the house; myself, my dad, my mum, two of my nieces and a nephew. They asked us to open the door and when we refused, they broke the main entrance and gained access to the house. My father was in his room and one of them wearing a mask, who was outside, shot him through the window and the bullet hit him from the back. Those who entered the house later went to his room and finished him up.
“They went away with one of my nieces, Ms Brenda Friday, 21, a final year student of Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya,” she narrated.
Another child of the deceased, Mr Joseph Yatai, said the gunmen had contacted the family and demanded N15 million to release the girl.
Similarly, brother to the rector, Innocent Magbon, said the gunmen had also reached out to the family to ask for a N15 million ransom.
