As el-Rufai condemns killing, sues for calm 

DISTRICT H ead o f F adan Karshi, a community in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Bala Madaki has been reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in a night raid.

Madaki was killed alongside a close relation, Emmanuel Tanko, a student writing the West African Examination Council (WAEC) examination, in the late hours of Sunday while taking fresh air in the premises.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has condemned the killing of  the traditional ruler and his relation, while commiserating with the family of the victims.

The governor urged the people of the affected area to be calm and support security agencies to investigate the attack and apprehend the perpetrators.

Residents, who attributed the killing to Fulani herdsmen, alleged that the group had launched a sustained attacks since the 2011 post election crisis leading to the killing of about 1,500 people in the Southern part of the state.

 On how the incident took place, a volunteer of the residents, who spoke with Daily Sun s aid: “ Due t o t he h eat, the district head applied insecticide in his room and was sleeping outside his big compound. We had a gun shut and everyone woke up and moved into their rooms at about 10pm.

“The gunmen followed the district head right inside his room and shot him severally on his head,” a resident, Mike Karshi, explained.

Another traditional title holder in the community confirmed that the boy that was killed was a close relation to the late district head.

“We don’t know what is happening. We hardly sleep here with our eyes closed since 2013 when gunmen invaded our communities. These gunmen speak Fulani. Many people are being killed frequently including women, youths, children and traditional rulers. Something urgent must be done.”

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Zubairu Abubakar, confirmed the incident. He told Daily Sun that he was trying to get the details of the incident from the district police officer in the area, which was not ready as at the time of filing the report.
