Gunmen have killed a ward councillor, Stanley Akpa Nwaeze, in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Nwaeze, who represented Enuagu Ward, was killed alongside the local government coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Arinze Joshua Ugochukwu.

The incident occurred on Monday, at Isu community in the local government. Ugochukwu who hailed from Amagu Mgbom village in Isu community, was also Secretary, Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo Alumni Association.

The alumni association and NYCN condemned his gruesome murder in strong terms and called on government and security agencies to fish out his killers and bring them to justice. His associate, Ifeanyichukwu Eluu, said: “I was with Arinze Joshua Ugochukwu, recently. He told me about these great plans after his convocation at UNN that just took place last month.”

One of the ward councillors in the local government, who did not want his name in print, told Daily Sun that Arinze Joshua Ugochukwu came to see Nwaeze, his friend in Enuagu, and he was seeing him off to Isu when they were killed. He noted that no one knew what led to their killing.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, said he was trying to reach the Divisional Police Officer of Onicha local government for confirmation as he was not around.
