Gunmen at the weekend stormed a meeting of some elders in Okwe community, in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, and shot eight elders to death. They went ahead to burn three of them after the act.

The motive for the killings could not be ascertained but a viral video in which the bodies were displayed indicated that the elders were having a get-together when the hoodlums struck. The community has been thrown into mourning following the incident.
Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Henry Okoye, who confirmed the attack, said the command was already investigating the matter and the police promised to bring the culprits to face the law.
He said: “This is very unfortunate. The command is saddened by this tragic incident. Investigation is ongoing to unravel the miscreants responsible for this dastardly act and make them face the full wrath of the law.”
