Gunmen have killed three people and abducted more than 50 others in Bagega village in Anka LGA of Zamfara state.

Among those who were abducted is  a district head, Hussaini Sarkin-Gabas, a district head.

The Northeast has been grappling with the challenge of militant insurgency for many years. 

At least 50 people, including women and children, have been abducted and three others killed in an attack by gunmen in Bagega Village of Zamfara State.

According to a  villager, who spoke on the condition of anonymity,the gunmen stormed the village on motorcycles, shooting  and setting houses ablaze.

According to a  village  chief, Mallam Abubakar,

seven people were also injured in the attack, adding that the district head of Bagega, was among the people kidnapped.

Bello Yahaya, whose father was abducted, said three people were killed and two policemen were shot and injured while trying to fend off the attackers.

“The injured officers, along with the other individuals, who suffered various degrees of gunshot injuries, are currently receiving medical treatment, while two critically injured victims have been referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau,the state capital.

A resident, Abdul  Aziz, said,” scores of people  have been abducted. There is panic and widespread fear among our people. I managed to escape being abducted. We are tired of running helter skelter. The attacks are becoming daily occurrence.

However, Zamfara State Police Publlic Relations Officer (PPRO) Yazid Abubakar, said he was yet to be briefed about the incident.
