Gunmen have abducted a driver and orderly of His Royal Highness, Chief Cornwell Ihunwo, the Paramount Ruler of Rumu-Elechi Community in Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, PortHarcourt, Rivers State.
The incident occurred along the Eagle Island Road on Saturday, at about 9pm. An executive member of Diobu Vigilance Group and Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, Godstime Ihunwo, made the disclosure in Port Harcourt.
Ihunwo said: “I received a call about the abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo, at about 9pm, on Saturday. I rushed down to his house at Eagle Island, where I met him. Chief Cornwell told me his driver and police orderly were rather abducted. We condemn the planned abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo and call on the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident”.
Daily Sun gathered that the monarch, Cornwell Ihunwo, whose aides were kidnapped, is the immediate younger brother of the former chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Victor Ihunwo.
The state Police Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), who confirmed the incident to journalists, said the case has been transferred to Octopus Strike Force Police unit for discreet investigation.
“The command is aware of it; the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed tactical teams to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law. He specifically directed the Octopus Strike Force Unit to conduct a full-scale investigation to ensure the victims regain their freedom unhurt. He also visited the scene with his management team and tactical team commanders.”
