A four-year-old boy and two others were fatally shot in a Thursday night attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Omulonye community in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
It was learnt that the attack, which also left several persons injured, forced residents to flee to neighbouring communities for refuge.
The attackers reportedly invaded the community at 9pm and began shooting sporadically.
A community source said the attack was unprovoked and caught residents unawares.
According to the source, three persons were killed among residents scampering for safety.

The source said the mother of the slain four-year-old boy was severely injured in the attack while his uncle was also killed.
The source said the dead victims have been buried while those who sustained injuries were rushed to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo for immediate medical attention.
The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed the attack and the death toll.
Aondongu added that efforts were on to identify and arrest the perpetrators of the attack.
