President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, has congratulated Chief Ayo Omidiran on her appointment as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).

Chief Omidiran was sworn into office on Thursday, January 22, 2026, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

In a statement, Gumel described the appointment as well-deserved, noting that Omidiran’s elevation reflects her decades of dedicated service to Nigerian sports and public administration. He praised her as a seasoned sports administrator whose experience and leadership qualities will add value to the FCC.

Omidiran is widely regarded as a veteran in Nigerian sports administration, having served as a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Board and as Chairperson of the Women’s Football Committee. She is also the proprietor of a female football club, a role through which she has consistently supported grassroots development and the growth of women’s football in the country.

According to Gumel, her transition to a key federal agency underscores the quality of leadership within the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the wider sports community.

“At 62, her wealth of experience and administrative competence make her an ideal choice to lead the FCC,” Gumel said, adding that the NOC family and the Nigerian sports fraternity are proud of her achievement.

He wished Chief Omidiran a successful tenure as she assumes responsibility for promoting equity, fairness, and national development through the commission.
