Guardiola okays potential Real Madrid move for Rodri

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed hope that former Ballon d’Or winner Rodri can stay at the club, but added he would not stop the mercurial midfielder from joining Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old Spaniard sparked controversy during the international break when he openly admitted he would consider joining the Spanish giants, as “you can’t turn down the best clubs in the world”.

Rodri, who joined City in 2019, has made 293 appearances for the club.

Asked to react to his midfield maestro’s comment, Guardiola said he would not stand in the way of a move for Rodri, whose contract expires next summer.

“There is not one player that will turn [down] the chance to play for [Real] Madrid.

“Always my wish is that Rodri could stay as long as possible in this club because he is an incredible top player, but the life of everyone is everyone’s,” Guardiola said.
