International Conference Event Ushers (ICEU) has trained more than 120 stakeholders in Abuja as part of efforts to reposition ushering as a respected profession with global standards and expanded career opportunities.
The training, organised by the Olori of Iwaya Kingdom, Mrs. Temitope Oloko, was held at Uzzitz Event Centre, Orji Kalu Close, Mabushi District, Abuja, yesterday. It attracted event ushers, ushering agencies, event professionals, entrepreneurs, students, corporate representatives and other stakeholders in the events industry.
Speaking during the conference, the convener said ICEU was established to transform public perception of ushering by promoting leadership, excellence, customer experience, entrepreneurship and career development.
According to her, the conference is designed to empower participants beyond the traditional role of ushering by providing practical skills, strategic partnerships and business opportunities that can help them build sustainable careers.
She noted that the goal is for participants to recognise ushering as more than a temporary job, describing it as a platform for leadership, entrepreneurship and personal growth.
Participants were also introduced to various income-generating opportunities through partnerships with corporate organisations, such as Wakanow, which unveiled its travel affiliate programme, enabling attendees to earn additional income. On its part, Access Bank’s W Initiative showcased business support and empowerment opportunities, particularly for women entrepreneurs. Representatives of Power Oil and MOL Tech Accessories also highlighted distributorship and partnership opportunities aimed at helping participants diversify their sources of income.
ICEU used the conference to unveil its long-term vision of expanding beyond Nigeria to establish a global platform dedicated to celebrating, empowering and advocating for event ushers worldwide.
The organisers explained that while previous editions rewarded participants with business-support tools such as industrial blenders and popcorn machines, this year’s Abuja edition focused on digital and financial empowerment through affiliate marketing and strategic business partnerships.
They added that future editions of the conference would feature collaborations with insurance companies, financial institutions and other corporate organisations to provide participants with wider empowerment opportunities and strengthen ushering as a professional and rewarding career path.
