A group known as Anambra Consultative Forum (ACF), has appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State to immediately commence reconstruction/palliative work on deplorable roads leading to the  Onitsha Main Market.
The group described Onitsha Main Market as the biggest market in West Africa, a pride of Nigeria and Anambra in particular which should be given adequate attention to increase the revenue base of the state.
In a statement by the leader of the group, Dede Uzor said that new market road leading to Onitsha Main Market has completely collapsed and impassable by both commuters and motorists, which made the traders and customers to trek out of the market to board vehicle to their various places.
Uzor  decried the cutting of the New Market Road, saying that traders have been  having difficult time accessing the market either from the Niger Street, that is  from Bridge Head through Ogbo Osisi to Main Market.
He stated that the deplorable state of the road has increased transport fare to and from the market and in some cases affected the flow of customers to the marker.
“Another critical road leading to the  market which has literally cut  into two at Bata by Vein Road junction by New Market Road, which has forced tricycle and bus operators to divert to access  the market.
“Unfortunately, the two roads in particular and other roads in Onitsha were not among the 64 km of roads recently awarded  by the Governor to mark his six months in office.
“Other strategic roads we asked the Governor to rehabilitate, include:  Porthacourt Road, Creek Road, Bida Road, Modebe Avenue, Miss Elems popularly known as Amaifeke Street.
“Others are Niger Street, Ziks Avenue from Ochanja Round About, Arondizuogu via  Orlu Street, Uga Street among other strategic roads in and around  Onitsha”.
ACF however commended Governor Soludo for the roads he awarded across the state but enjoined him to ensure that the roads were completed within the duration of the contract.
They enjoined the Governor to immediately commence palliative work preparatory to major work in the two critical  roads leading to “Anambra oil well” which is the Main Market.
The further urged EFCC and ICPC to intensify action in probing the former Governor, Willie Obiano over alleged incidences of corruption and self enrichment leading to the decay of infrastructures and milking the State.
