Elders and Youths of Nembe kingdom (Ogbolomabiri and Bassambiri) under the aegis of Nembe-Se Congress, have urged political parties in the state to stop threatening the electorates with violence ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

They appealed to politicians to respect the rights of the electorates as enshrined in chapter 4 of the 1999 constitution.

The group in a statement signed by its President, Chief Ebiegberi Domo-Spiff, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies to ensure a level playing ground for all candidates.

It called on politicians and community leaders to allow all eligible voters cast their ballot for the candidate of their choice.

The statement said, “The Congress continues in its effort to explore ways to restore peace in Nembe Basaambiri, we implore the good people of the community (Nembe Bassambiri) to realise that we are of a common ancestry and heritage, and that providence has brought us together as one indivisible people of Nembe extraction.

“Consequently, the Congress appeals to the people of Nembe Bassambiri to bury the hatchet, give peace a chance and live as brothers and sisters as in the old times.”
