A group, Nigerian-American Coalition for Justice and Democracy (NACJD), has set the ball rolling to celebrate those it classifies as heroes of the 2023 election, in Abuja come weekend.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the group, organisers of the Courageous Citizens Award (CCA), Professor Eddie Oparaoji.
According to Professor Eddie Oparaoji, by its standard for heroes of democracy, NACJD refers to those ordinarily referred to as commoners or according to Shakespeare, the plebian, such as the likes of the flag boy of 2023 Election, the unstoppable Jennifer Efidi, Pa Ayo Adebayo – who stood firmly on the side of truth, Victoria Chintex- assassinated for the cause of justice and democracy and many others.
The Chairman and Initiator of NACJD, also added that as well as the heroic Award, the Courageous Citizens Award (CCA), recognizes the exceptional bravery and commitment demonstrated by ordinary citizens in advancing the cause of democracy, justice, and equity in Nigeria. “It celebrates individuals who have exhibited remarkable courage and sacrifice for the greater good of the nation, embodying the spirit of civic responsibility and activism”, he said.
Professor Oparaoji further described NACJD as a good governance project committed to fostering a credible electoral process and a better Nigeria. “It also seeks to acknowledge and celebrate the unsung heroes who, amidst adversity and danger, demonstrated unwavering courage, resilience, and dedication to the principles of democracy”.
Professor Oparaoji, who is also Chairman and Advisor, Nigerian-American Leadership Council (NALC), disclosed that, by honouring them (the Plebian), NACJD aims to inspire others to actively engage in shaping the future of Nigeria to foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and civic responsibility.
