The Arewa Youths Assembly on Friday accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of alleged selective prosecution of corruption cases, particularly those involving high-profile individuals affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group criticized the EFCC’s “lack of action” against some top officials in the ruling party, despite serious corrupt allegations against them.
Publicity Secretary for the group, Aliyu Muhammed, said for example that a former governor of a North-West state (name withheld) “is no longer protected by constitutional immunity, yet he remains untouched by the EFCC and ICPC.”
The group questioned the EFCC’s criteria for pursuing cases and demanded transparency in its decision-making processes. The group urged the anti graft agency to demonstrate its commitment to justice by prosecuting alleged corrupt people regardless of their political affiliations.
“We stand united in our call for an impartial approach to the fight against corruption. The EFCC has a duty to uphold the law without fear or favor.
“It is only through fair and consistent enforcement that we hope to eradicate the pervasive culture of corruption in our society,” the group said.
