The Lagos State Government has commenced the rehabilitation of the final stretch of damaged sections of the Lekki-Epe Expressway as part of efforts to address perennial traffic congestion along the busy corridor.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engineer Olufemi Daramola, disclosed this on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ engagement to mark the commencement of rehabilitation works on the damaged sections from Bonny Camp to Admiralty Way Junction and the VGC axis in Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
Daramola said the stakeholders’ meeting underscored Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to mitigating the risks associated with the deteriorating condition of the road and creating a safer environment for motorists and other road users.
He added that the commencement of work on the final section reflected the administration’s determination to complete the rehabilitation of the entire stretch of the strategic highway.
According to him, the government is committed to ensuring that the rehabilitation works are carried out efficiently while minimising the inconvenience to commuters and residents along the corridor.
Daramola assured motorists of adequate security and effective traffic management throughout the rehabilitation period.
He also appealed to residents and other stakeholders to cooperate with the government and traffic management officials to ensure the smooth execution of the project.

The special adviser urged residents to take ownership of government projects in their communities by protecting public infrastructure and supporting efforts to ensure their successful completion.
Speaking at the stakeholders’ forum, the Chairman of the Victoria Island and Lekki Residents Association (VIIRA), Sir Akin Fadoju, expressed support for the state government’s efforts to rehabilitate the damaged sections of the expressway.
Fadoju, however, decried the environmental challenges along the corridor, identifying the absence of adequate drainage systems as a major cause of flooding whenever it rains.
He said poor drainage had continued to worsen the condition of roads in the area, causing flooding and further inconveniencing motorists and residents.
The VIIRA chairman called on the federal and state governments to collaborate in addressing the road infrastructure challenges along the corridor, stressing that a coordinated approach was necessary to achieve lasting solutions.
He noted that the completion of the rehabilitation works would improve road conditions, ease traffic congestion and ensure smoother movement for commuters and motorists travelling along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
