Afrobeats singer, Temilade Openiyi also known as Tems, defeated Davido, Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Asake to win Best African Music Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Tems’ smash song ‘Love Me Jeje’ won out over ‘Tomorrow’ (Yemi Alade), ‘MMS’ (Asake & Wizkid), ‘Sensational’ (Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay), and “Higher” (Burna Boy).

‘Love Me Jeje’, a sample of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 song of the same name, has gained critical acclaim from global music fans since its debut in April.

Tems’ victory means that the women have won the newly introduced category back-to-back.

South African singer, Tyla won the maiden award last year with her global hit ‘Water’.

Meanwhile, Tems missed out on her two other nominations.

She lost the Best R&B Song to SZA’s ‘Saturn’ and the Best Global Music Album to Matt B featuring Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s ‘Alkebulan II’.
