Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) is not dead as speculated in some quarters.
His Personal Assistant, Adeyeye Ajayi made the clarification in a statement issued on Sunday.
Gowon, 91, was rumoured to have succumbed to stage 4 prostate cancer in a London hospital on Saturday, December 13.

Ajayi described the reports as false and misleading.
“The claims making the rounds on social media about the death of General Yakubu Gowon are completely false and misleading. There is no truth whatsoever in the reports. The former military leader continues to live an active and purposeful life,” he said.
He warned against spreading falsehood about the former Nigerian leader, warning it could cause panic in society.
“General Gowon is alive, in good health, and remains active. He continues to attend public events and contribute to discussions on peace, unity, and the development of Nigeria,” Ajayi stressed.
