The Edo State Government has announced the postponement of the resumption of all public and private schools in Edo Central Senatorial District, as schools resumed throughout the state yesterday.

The state Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, in a statement, said the school resumption had been postponed until further notice to enable the government address some exigencies and improve the welfare of pupils.

“The new date of resumption will be duly communicated to the public in due course.

“Parents, guardians, and all education stakeholders within Edo Central Senatorial District are kindly requested to take note of this development and comply accordingly,” the statement said.

Sources, however, said the postponement of schools’ resumption was a cautionary move to ensure that last Saturday’s violent protest in Ekpoma over incessant kidnappings does not spread to other parts of the senatorial district.

Recall that the management of Ambrose Alli University had earlier, on the day of the protest, suddenly announced the closure of the university, suspending ongoing examinations and other activities at the institution.
