Governor expresses displeasure at the judicial release of confiscated illicit drug items in the state

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed displeasure at the boldness of certain drug dealers who had sought legal recourse to secure the release of their confiscated illicit drug shipments in the state.

 

The Governor equally expressed surprise at the judges that granted such court orders despite the seriousness of the issue at hand.

 

A statement on Sunday by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor’s spokesperson, disclosed that the Governor reacted to development during his visit to the office of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA).

 

Daily Sun reports that during the visit, the Governor was informed that some illicit drug traders in the state were able to successfully procure court orders for the release of their seized contraband items.

 

The Governor, consequently directed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the state to formulate a comprehensive strategy to prevent suspected drug dealers from exploiting legal loopholes to undermining the system.

 

He also stressed the need for collaboration between the judiciary and the government with a view to protecting the society from the harmful effects of drugs.

 

Yusuf also urged the management of KAROTA to take all necessary steps with a view to evacuating the confiscated items from their premises and surroundings while restating government‘s commitment to the fight against drugs.
