From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
Kano State Government has dismissed claims by a recently sacked Commissioner in the state, Shehu Wada Sagagi, alleging that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the APC was driven by the fear of being denied the opportunity to contest a second term under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) platform.
A statement signed on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya described the allegation as false and a deliberate attempt to distort the genuine intentions behind the governor’s defection.

The statement held that the allegation was not only misleading but had ignored the governor’s strong political standing, wide acceptance, and proven track record of service delivery across the state while adding that the governor’s defection was taken in the overriding interest of the state.
“It is a strategic and well-considered move aimed at consolidating progress, fostering stronger collaboration, and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach all citizens and residents without marginalization” the commissioner explained.
“The Governor remains focused on the “Kano First” agenda, which prioritises the welfare of the people, infrastructural development, economic growth, and social stability” he added
The Commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the continued progress of the state while urging the public not to be distracted by baseless claims and the sentiments of unpatriotic elements.
