Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, yesterday inaugurated Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru (retd) as the new Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services.

The ceremony took place at the start of the 28th Kano State Executive Council meeting held at Kwankwasiyya City.

In a brief remark, Governor Yusuf stated that AVM Umaru was appointed based on merit and his commitment to coordinating the operations of security agencies across the state.

“AVM Ibrahim’s expertise in handling critical security roles, along with his distinguished military career marked by discipline, dedication, and unwavering service, makes him an ideal candidate to lead our internal security efforts,” the governor explained.

Governor Yusuf urged the new commissioner to leverage his wealth of experience in addressing security challenges, adding, “I also expect him to work tirelessly to ensure that Kano remains a safe and prosperous place for all its citizens.”

AVM Umaru was, until his appointment, the director-general of the Special Services Directorate at the Kano State Government House. He is a retired officer of the Nigerian Air Force with vast experience in peacekeeping operations and national assignments both locally and internationally.

As Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, he will be responsible for coordinating the activities of security agencies and working closely with communities to foster trust and strengthen public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
