Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has disbursed N400 million to 10 community interest groups of young generation to engage in agribusinesses in the state.
This is coming on the heels of the state’s resolve to boost food security through agricultural value chain development.
The move will not only boost food security in Mano State but also in the entire country.
This was contained in a statement by Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa yesterday.
According to the statement, the disbursement of the N400 million Community Revolving Fund to 10 interest groups from four local government areas of the state, was organised by the Kano Agro-Climatic Resilience Landscape (ACreSAL) in collaboration with the World Bank.
The Governor said the groups would receive N40 million ($25,000) each, while every member of each group is expected to receive at least N1 million as a start-up capital for the agribusiness.
He said the programme was designed to register community interest groups and farmers cooperatives in selected areas for climatic resilient businesses.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicial use of the fund to enable other teeming youth across the state benefit from ACReSAL programme.
He stressed that the state has made a remarkable strides in tackling environmental challenges through the ACReSAL initiatives.
He charged the state Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, who was the immediate past coordinator of the ACReSAL, to come up with more strategic programmes to ensure friendly environmental sustainability.
In his welcome address, Dr. Hashim urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the revolving fund, disclosing that there were other international donor agencies ready to support the state, provided this particular project succeeded.
On his part, The National Coordinator of ACReSAL programme, Alhaji Abdulhamid Umar, expressed gratitude to the state government for the partnership and for its commitment to eradicate redundancy among its teeming youth.
