Gov Peter Mbah: Tomorrow is here

On the day he assumed office as Governor of Enugu State on May 29, 2023, Dr. Peter Mbah set the ball rolling by signing Executive Order 005, mandating all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to publish service level agreements detailing costs, processes, and time-frame for service delivery.

With his experience as a maritime lawyer and financial analyst, he has been aggressively positioning Enugu as a preferred destination for business, investment, tourism and for living.

His administration has embarked on a full automation of all the key functions of the state government and has addressed the issue of fiscal energy and environmental cleanliness. The ongoing new Enugu City is another milestone which is aimed at decongestion and rapid growth while providing real estate investment opportunities.

Within a space of three years, his administration has completed the abandoned International Conference Centre in Enugu; It has also resuscitated the iconic Presidential Hotel and Nike Lake Resort Hotel, Enugu United Palm Produce Limited; Sunrise Flour Mill and NIGERGAS.

Under his watch, over 1,000 kilometres of urban, rural and intercity roads have been either constructed or rehabilitated.

The roads include Annunciation-Emene Road to the Owo–Ubahu–Neke–Ikem dual carriageway, 9th Mile-Oji River, Okpara Avenue, Abakpa Junction, and Independence Layout, among others.

His Smart Green School Initiative, under which he is constructing 260 technology-driven, solar-powered schools with digital learning infrastructure, represents an uncommon education reform in the state.

In healthcare, agriculture, urban renewal, sanitation and transportation, his administration has also done well.

One of his giant strides that the people of Enugu will not forget in a hurry is the historic turnaround of the decades-long water scarcity in Enugu metropolis. Within his first 180 days in office, Enugu started enjoying treated pipe-borne water, as he promised during his electioneering campaigns.

For the uncommon transformation of Enugu State in less than two and half years, The Sun Board of Editors chose him as winner of The Sun Man of the Award 2025.
