Vows project will link farms to markets under ‘People First’ agenda

The Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, says the 10km Ugboro-Ukpah-Afrike Road project will end years of rural isolation and open up new economic opportunities for farming communities in Bekwarra Local Government Area.
The governor disclosed this through his deputy, Peter Odey, while flagging off the construction of the project, describing it as a major milestone in the administration’s ‘People First’ agenda.
“This road will improve access to rural communities, facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, stimulate commerce, enhance access to healthcare and education, and create new economic opportunities for our people,” Odey told residents and stakeholders.
He said the project reflects the administration’s resolve to fulfil campaign promises and deliver critical infrastructure that directly impacts the livelihoods of citizens.
The Deputy Governor called on community leaders, youths and residents to cooperate with the contractor to ensure smooth and timely delivery. He also charged the contractor to prioritise local content by engaging qualified labour and sourcing materials locally.

Executive Chairman of Bekwarra LGA, Hon. Egbung Odama, hailed Governor Otu as a “promise keeper” whose administration is translating promises into tangible development.
“For years, our farmers struggled to move produce to market. This road shows that Bekwarra has not been forgotten in the Governor’s development agenda,” Odama said.
He appealed to the state government to also consider the Abuochiche–Akwurinyi Road.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Dr Pius Ankpo Edet, assured that the project would be executed to approved engineering standards and completed within the lifespan of the present administration.
Commissioner for Finance, Dr Michael Odere, confirmed that adequate funding arrangements have been made to guarantee uninterrupted execution until completion.
Stakeholders, including the member representing Bekwarra State Constituency, Hon. Charles Omang, the Paramount Ruler of Bekwarra and NYCN Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ulaye, pledged the community’s full cooperation to ensure a peaceful environment for the contractor.
