wp-Gov Otu launches

The Special Adviser on General Duties to Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, Dr. Ekpenyong Akiba, has said the free bus service launched by Governor Bassey Otu is meant to ease movement and alleviate hardship.

Speaking at the weekend during the ongoing Carnival Calabar, he said Cross Riverians are pleased with the benevolence of the governor in launching the ‘Season of Sweetness Free Transport Service’, aimed at reducing the hardship of residents during the Yuletide season. The free bus service would be in operation till January 1, 2025 and would convey people within and across the entire state.

Akiba who is the Chairman of the committee in charge of monitoring the free bus service scheme noted that the gov-ernor’s gesture is in ful-filment of his campaign promise to initiate policies that are pro-people.

He said, “The ‘Sea-son of Sweetness Free Bus Service’ is a way of ensur-ing that many Cross Rive-rians feel the impact of the governor’s administration. The governor believes that giving the people such free transport services this season to cushion the effect of the economic hardship was of paramount impor-tance. Cross Riverians are very happy with Governor Otu’s gesture. They are excited about his compassion and humanity. There is no greater reward than seeing that your people know that you feel their pulse, their suffering and that you are a responsive leader.

“Cross Riverians know that the governor cannot put money directly into their pockets but this little gesture goes a long way in ameliorating their hardship at a time such as this. The people are delight-ed that the free bus service is another way of cushioning the current hardship occasioned by high transportation costs. They are in-deed pleased with what the governor is doing generally to put smiles on their faces. As the chairman of the monitoring team, I can say that the free bus service is going on smoothly without any hitch. The free bus service has lasted for about two weeks and it will run into the new year.”
