The Cross River State governor Senator Bassey Otu has appointed the Paramount Ruler of Abi His Royal Majesty Ovai (Elder) Solomon Osim Edward JP, as Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs.
The appointment is contained in a press release signed by the secretary to the state government Professor Anthony Owan Enoh.
The release read, “His Excellency, the Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, in exercise of the power vested in him by Section 3 of the Council of Chiefs Law, Cap C15 Laws of Cross River State 2004, has approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty Ovai (Elder) Solomon Osim Edward JP, Paramount Ruler of Abi Local Government Area, as Chairman,, State Council of Chiefs.
“The appointment of His Royal Majesty Ovai Osim Edward is for a term of 2 years effective from 21st June, 2024.
“Issued at Calabar this 21st day of June, 2024”, the message read.
His Royal Majesty Ovai (Elder) Solomon Osim Edward JP, replaces the Paramount Ruler of Bakassi HRH Etinyin Etim Okon Edet who was recently removed as Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs by the state governor.
His removal followed a resolution by the State House of Assembly calling for his removal having spent about ten years in office instead of two years as prescribed by law.
