Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi has procured 50 rice-processing mills, 50 destoners and 50 threshers to boost agricultural development in the state.

The equipment were listed in the state government’s first-year agricultural report among the interventions aimed at strengthening rice production and processing.

The machines are intended to support farmers and processors while improving the handling of rice after harvest.

The development forms part of a broader agricultural programme that includes the provision of fertiliser, improved seeds, pesticides and herbicides to farmers.
The state government has also expanded agricultural mechanisation through the procurement of tractors, combine harvesters and other farm implements.
Rice production has received substantial attention under the administration, with the government reporting support for more than 200,000 hectares of rice during the 2024 dry season.
The government projected a harvest of more than 800,000 metric tonnes from the programme.
